This sea adventure began unexpectedly when a political writer named Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli was exiled to Bodrum for publishing a story about army fugitives. The judges who sentenced Cevat Sakir to a number of years in the remote port knew nothing of its lifestyle. However, as Cevat Sakir discovered, the lifestyle was akin to paradise. He settled down and adopted the name “Fisherman of Halicarnassus”. In his stories, he vividly portrayed the town and its locals, particularly the fishermen, with great affection. All of his stories were taken verbatim.
During his regular outings with fishermen, Cevat Sakir became familiar with the various coves and bays in the Gulf of Gokova. With his friendly approach, Cevat Sakir was able to create a welcoming atmosphere for all who joined him on his voyages. When intellectuals from Istanbul visited, he confidently introduced them to the fisherman’s way of life. Together, they constructed a theory of culture that embraced the cultures of all the people who lived in Asia Minor.
Cevat Sakir’s tours of the Gulf of Gokova became famous and were given the name ‘Mavi Yolculuk’, ‘Blue Voyage’ or ‘Blue Cruise’. Cevat Sakir has been an inspiration for this voyage of exploration, which has brought joy to thousands of people for almost 60 years.

If you happen to be travelling during a full moon, the view is simply spectacular.
If you happen to be travelling during a full moon, the view is simply spectacular. Even without the moon, you will still be treated to a stunning phosphorescent scene, created by tiny creatures that are invisible to the human eye. It’s truly a magical experience that you won’t want to miss! As you move through the water in the pitch dark, you will be amazed by the glittering effect. When the oar touches the water, circles of light appear, and water drops splashing from the oars create a shower of stars on the sea’s surface.
Swimming on a pitch dark night can be an incredible experience. It’s like a narcissistic pleasure. Just imagine lying on the deck alone with the stars while the sea is quite choppy in the gulf. Alternatively, you could visit fishermen’s villages isolated by the bay during the day. It’s a great way to experience the local culture and meet new people.
